How to Mine Epic Cash (EPIC) — RandomX CPU Guide (epic-miner)
A step-by-step guide to mining Epic Cash on the pool.ion.cool pool: a ready
epic-miner.toml for RandomX, autostart with systemd, the stratum port and
how payouts work. No accounts and no sign-ups — your wallet address is your identity on
the pool.
What you need
- A modern CPU —
RandomXis a CPU algorithm: every core of your processor can work - epic-miner — the Epic team's own miner: ready-made builds on the GitLab releases page (Windows zip for CPU and OpenCL, Debian
.debfor CPU/CUDA/OpenCL), or built from source on GitHub (Rust) - Your EPIC wallet address — see step 1
- Nothing else: the pool has no accounts, logins or email confirmation
1. Get your EPIC wallet
- Official wallet: Epic Cash wallet
- Explorer (to check payments): https://explorer.epicmine.io
- Wallet: the Epic GUI wallet for Windows, macOS and Linux, from the official releases
- EPIC is MimbleWimble: there are no persistent addresses on the chain — copy the fresh address your wallet shows on Receive and reuse it as your pool login
- Exchanges: TradeOgre and ChangeNOW list EPIC (per epic.tech)
Use your own wallet address, not an exchange deposit address, unless the exchange explicitly says it supports pool payouts to EPIC.
2. Get epic-miner
Option A — a ready-made build (recommended on Windows). The Epic team publishes
binaries on the GitLab releases page;
the current release is 2.3.1. We unpacked it and ran both packages against this pool:
- Windows:
epic-miner_2.3.1-1.zip(CPU, RandomX) andepic-miner-opencl_2.3.1-1.zip(GPU, ProgPow). The zip already containsepic-miner.toml,Sockets-style plugins and the DLLs it needs - Debian/Ubuntu:
epic-miner_2.3.1-1_amd64.deb, plus theepic-miner-cuda_…andepic-miner-opencl_…packages - Heads-up for modern distros: these
.debfiles target the Ubuntu 18.04 library set (libssl1.1,libncursesw.so.5,librandomx.so). On Ubuntu 22.04/24.04 the binary stops immediately witherror while loading shared libraries: libncursesw.so.5— we saw exactly that. On such systems use option B instead
Option B — build from source (any current Linux):
- Toolchain on Debian/Ubuntu:
sudo apt install build-essential cmake clang libssl-dev pkg-config gitplus Rust - Build it:
git clone https://github.com/EpicCash/epic-miner && cd epic-miner && cargo build --release - The binary lands in
target/release/epic-miner; run./target/release/epic-miner new_configto drop anepic-miner.tomlinto the current folder
3. Create the mining config
epic-miner.toml next to the binary# epic-miner.toml [mining] algorithm = "RandomX" stratum_server_addr = "pool.ion.cool:33339" stratum_server_login = "<YOUR_EPIC_ADDRESS>.RIG1" stratum_server_password = "x" # run (-c is optional when epic-miner.toml sits next to the binary) epic-miner.exe -c epic-miner.toml
# epic-miner.toml [mining] algorithm = "RandomX" stratum_server_addr = "pool.ion.cool:33339" stratum_server_login = "<YOUR_EPIC_ADDRESS>.RIG1" stratum_server_password = "x" # run ./epic-miner -c epic-miner.toml
- Replace
<YOUR_EPIC_ADDRESS>with your real address andRIG1with your rig name - Wallet format:
ADDRESSorADDRESS.rigname— everything after the dot is the worker name - epic-miner has no pool flags at all:
stratum_server_addr,stratum_server_loginandalgorithmlive in the config file - The password is ignored by the pool — any value works
- Several rigs: same address, different rig names (
ADDRESS.rig1,ADDRESS.rig2, …)
Miners: what was tested against this pool
| Miner | Algorithm | Result on this pool |
|---|---|---|
| epic-miner, official CPU build Windows zip and Linux build |
RandomX (CPU) | Works — tested. Connects, picks up the job and sends shares the pool accepts; the rigs show up in the Miners table under your address |
| epic-miner-opencl, official GPU build Windows zip |
ProgPow (GPU) | Works — tested. RTX 5060 laptop GPU held about 15.4 MH/s and the log was a steady stream of accepted shares |
TT-Miner 2024.3.2-c epic, Windows |
ProgPow (GPU) | Protocol OK, no hashrate here. It logs Connected to epic://pool.ion.cool:33339,
receives jobs and the difficulty, so it speaks this pool's dialect — but the 2024.3.2 build ships no CUDA
kernel for RTX 50-series (compute 12.0) and stays at 0 H/s on an RTX 5060,
therefore it produced no shares. Expect it to work on older NVIDIA/AMD cards |
| XMRig-Epic github.com/epicminepool/xmrig-epic |
RandomX (CPU) | Not compatible (verified). It is built for pools that reshape the job into XMRig's
blob / target / seed_hash format,
like epicmine.io. This pool passes the Epic node's own job, so the miner closes the connection
right after the login reply — we captured the exchange to confirm it |
| SRBMiner-MULTI 3.7.3 srbminer.com |
ProgPow (GPU) | Not tested against this pool. It does carry Epic Cash —
progpow_epic, ProgPow on GPU — but its own example points at
de.epicmine.io, a pool that reshapes the job into a plain stratum
format, while this pool passes the Epic node's own dialect (see the XMRig-Epic row above).
So: a plausible candidate, but we have no run of it here and do not claim it works |
- Our own run, October 2026: the two official Windows builds side by side for 2.5 minutes produced 1221 valid shares on this pool (one CPU rig, one GPU rig), and every one of them is visible in the Miners table
- Epic rotates the working algorithm — RandomX, then ProgPow, then Cuckoo. A CPU miner only hashes
during the RandomX window and a GPU miner only during the ProgPow window, so long stretches of
0 hpsbetween jobs are normal, not a fault - Results are re-checked whenever the pool or a miner is updated; the pool software itself is open, so a miner that speaks the Epic node's stratum dialect is expected to work
4. Pool ports
| Server | Port | Protocol | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|---|
| pool.ion.cool | 33339 | stratum | 1000 |
- Port 33339 — plain stratum, the recommended default
- The address bar of this page is always the server:
pool.ion.cool
5. Autostart with systemd
epic-miner has no HiveOS build — run it on any Linux machine. To survive reboots, create
/etc/systemd/system/epic-miner.service:
[Unit] Description=epic-miner (EPIC) After=network-online.target [Service] WorkingDirectory=/opt/epic-miner ExecStart=/opt/epic-miner/epic-miner -c /opt/epic-miner/epic-miner.toml Restart=always [Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target
sudo systemctl daemon-reload && sudo systemctl enable --now epic-miner
Set run_tui = false in epic-miner.toml:
a service has no terminal, and with the TUI off the miner logs its shares to stdout instead.
6. Track your statistics
- Dashboard: https://pool.ion.cool/epic/ — paste your wallet into My Stats to see your hashrate, shares and rounds
- Miners table on the dashboard shows every rig live, with per-hour hashrate and pool share
- Payments tab lists every payout with its transaction ID
- Public API: https://pool.ion.cool/api/pools (miningcore-compatible JSON: hashrate, connected miners, blocks, payments)
How payouts work
- Scheme: PROP — your reward is proportional to your valid shares in each round
- Cycle: the pool pays out every hour once your balance reaches
0.1 EPIC - Maturity: a block reward becomes spendable after 1440 confirmations (~24 hours) — a rule of the network, not a pool delay
- Fee: 1% — taken from the block rewards (reward recipients), never from your balance
- Blocks: under PROP you are paid from the blocks the pool finds; until the first block is found, balances only accumulate
- Every payment is visible in the Payments tab and in the block explorer
Why this pool
| pool.ion.cool | Solo mining (your own node) | |
|---|---|---|
| Pool fee | 1% | 0% — but you only ever win what your own CPU finds |
| Setup | epic-miner plus one config file | a synced Epic node plus its wallet listener |
| Reward rhythm | PROP — a steady share of every block the pool finds | you wait for your own block |
| Statistics | live per-rig hashrate, shares and blocks | whatever your node logs |
| Account to start | none — mine straight to your wallet | none |
Epic Cash is multi-algorithm: the node issues RandomX, ProgPow and Cuckoo jobs in turn, and epic-miner works only the algorithm named in its config — it sits out the jobs of the other two and picks the next RandomX one up.
- One dashboard for every coin on this pool: Quantus, Pearl, Core, Qwertycoin, Epic Cash, PCoin, Block Zero & Orange — mine them in the same place (see also Quantus)
- Live per-rig statistics, share charts and a public API — no login required
- Hourly payouts, PROP, no registration and no minimum account balance
FAQ
Do I need an account to mine here?
No. Point your miner at pool.ion.cool:33339 with your wallet address
and the dashboard will find you by that address. There is no registration, login or email confirmation.
When will I be paid?
The pool pays out every hour once your balance reaches 0.1 EPIC.
Balances accumulate from the blocks the pool finds, and a block reward becomes spendable after 1440
confirmations (~24 hours) — so the first payout lands about a day after the first block.
Which miner should I use?
epic-miner — the miner published by the Epic team — is the tested option: it speaks
the node's own stratum dialect, which carries the whole proof (height, job, nonce and the
algorithm's solution) rather than a header hash. Use its OpenCL build if you have a GPU
(ProgPow). The rest of the field has no verified run on this pool: SRBMiner-MULTI 3.7.3 does
carry Epic Cash (progpow_epic, ProgPow on GPU) but its own example is
written for a pool that reshapes the job, and XMRig-Epic is written for pools that reshape jobs into XMRig's
blob/target/seed_hash
format and drops the connection here. Full test results are in
the miners table above.
Can I mine from several rigs with one address?
Yes. Use the same address for every rig and give each a unique suffix after the dot:
ADDRESS.rig1, ADDRESS.rig2. Each rig gets its own
row in the Miners table.
Is there an encrypted (TLS) connection?
The EPIC pool currently exposes plain stratum on port 33339 only — that is the port to use. TLS support may be added later; watch this page.
Where do I see my hashrate and payments?
On the dashboard: My Stats for your wallet, the Miners table for each rig, and the Payments tab for payout transactions. Machines can also poll the public API.
